Frequently Asked Questions


Q. What type of drugs can be tested with DrugWipe®?
A. The DrugWipe® line of products can detect the following drugs or combination of drugs: Cannabis (THC), Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, Ecstasy, Cocaine and Opiates.

Q. Can the DrugWipe® tests detect 'visible' or 'invisible' traces of illegal narcotics?
A. DrugWipe® has been engineered to detect 'invisible' traces of illegal narcotics. However, DrugWipe® can be used to test 'visible' substances (i.e., powders or liquids) by following a few simple steps to dilute the substance prior to testing.

Q. What type of test mediums can be used?
A. DrugWipe® can be used to test surfaces, sweat or saliva**.

Q. What type of surface areas can be tested?*
A. Most any surface area, such as doorknobs, computers, cell phones, wallets, steering wheels, drug paraphernalia, scales, equipment, clothing, etc. If you have a question about testing a specific surface, please contact your IDDSS representative for detailed information.

Q. What area can you use to conduct a sweat test?**
A. The recommended areas to test sweat for drug consumption are the forehead area, back of the neck or palm of the hand.

Q. What area can you use to conduct a saliva test?**
A. A saliva test can be conducted to detect drug consumption simply by wiping the tongue or inside of the cheek area.

Q. Why is the control line used?
A. The control line indicates the test ran properly and the test did not encounter any problems.

Q. What indicates a positive test?
A. The test includes an indicator line for each drug tested. The indicator line will appear in the read-out window if the test is positive for a particular drug. A test is also considered positive if the line appears incomplete or faint. A faint line simply means the drug has been detected near the cut-off levels, where an incomplete line means the drug sample was uneven when collected on the pad.

Q. How accurate is the DrugWipe® test?
A. The antibodies developed for the DrugWipe® technology guarantee highest precision in the filed of drug detection. Based on the key-lock-principle, the customized DrugWipe® antibodies bind to the drug substances in question. 

Q. How sensitive is the DrugWipe® test?
A. Besides precise differentiation of various drug substances, DrugWipe® detects at the nanogram level. This sensitivity is equivalent to a table spoon of sugar dissolved in an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Q. How are the DrugWipe® tests stored and what are the temperature use and storage requirements?
A. The DrugWipe® tests are sealed in foil pouches and can be stored long-term in typical home and office environments with ambient room temperatures of 41 °Fto 77 °F.
DrugWipe® can be used in a temperature range of 41 °F to 104 °F.
For transportation, an extended temperature range of 41 °F to 95 °F for a maximum of 3 days is allowed.
Although not recommended, please note that DrugWipe® tests transported in the vehicle should not be exposed to temperatures above 104 °F.
Exposed DrugWipe® tests must be discarded.
For DrugWipe® use below 41 °F, allow the test to reach room temperature prior to use (e.g. warm-up briefly in your hands).

Q. Do you have to use special water to run the test?
A. No. Tap water is sufficient to run a test; however, for ease of use and portability, individually sealed water packets are attached to each DrugWipe® foil packet.

Q. Are there any hazardous chemicals or acids in the DrugWipe® test?
A. No. DrugWipe® does not contain any hazardous materials, so there are no disposal issues. Drugwipe can be disposed along with normal trash.

Q. Can I recycle the DrugWipe® after use?
A. Yes. It can be recycled with your regular plastic recycling.

Q. What is the normal shelf-life of the DrugWipe® test?
A. Normal shelf-life is 12 to 18 months. Using DrugWipe® after expiration date may lead to invalid test results.

Q. Is training and certification available?
A. Yes. Training and certification is recommended for all users of DrugWipe®. Minimal training is necessary to run a test properly; however, we recommend certification for legal purposes.

Q. Can a positive test be confirmed by a laboratory?
A. Yes. The DrugWipe® test results can be forwarded to the Affiniton™ laboratory for confirmation testing, if required.

Q. Who Uses DrugWipe®?
A. Some agencies who use DrugWipe® include: Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement, Probation, Parole and Correctional Facilities as well as rehabilitation and drug counseling facilities, private investigators and employers.
 
* Disclaimer - The use of DrugWipe® products is for FORENSIC purposes only. DrugWipe® delivers a preliminary result. Particularly positive results require a second confirmatory chemical method (e.g. GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry) or HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatography).
